Fall Enrollment Information:

Enrollment Lottery Process

New Student Enrollment for Grades TK-5 for the 2024-2025 school year does not automatically enroll students in the Extended Student Services (ESS) before and/or after school program. A separate application process for ESS is required for all new students.

Effective for the 2024-2025 school year, new applications to the ESS program will be centrally managed by the District Office, Before/After School Department through a single application and interest list. Information on how to apply for ESS for the upcoming school year, will be available on the DO ESS webpage starting on January 19, 2024.

Submitting an application for ESS does not guarantee participation in the program. It is anticipated that the demand for the ESS program will exceed the program capacity at most schools. Should a site be determined near capacity for ESS enrollment, a lottery process may be necessary to determine new student placement in the program.

Students in Grades TK-4 participating in the ESS program during the current 2023-2024 school year, will be considered continuing students and will not need to re-apply. Continuing students will receive continuing registration information directly from the ESS Site Supervisor by January 19, 2024.

Students in Grades TK-4 currently on an ESS waitlist for the program must apply as a new student to the program for the 2024-2025 school year.

Expanded Learning Opportunities (ELO-P) Interest List

The State of California has recently passed legislation providing funding for afterschool and summer or intersession enrichment opportunities for students in grades TK-6. In PUSD, access to these opportunities will be provided through our Extended Student Services (ESS) program for students in TK-5. (6th grade students can access the ASES program at the middle school). Enrollment in ESS through this state-funded program depends on the availability of funding, space in the ESS program at your school, and eligibility criteria. To learn more about the eligibility criteria, click HERE.

Enrich

E.S.S. Embraces ENRICH, an acronym to include the following areas of enrichment, to use as a Guide for Staff Planning:
E xercise mind & body
N urturing
R eading & Relationships
I nvestigating Interests
C haracter Counts!, Creative Thinking, & the Arts
H aving Fun!

We believe that the children's extended day will be enriched by providing a balanced activity calendar that will support their growth and development. We encourage all children to explore their interests, motivate them to strive to their personal best, while enjoying time spent with friends and staff.

Hours of Operation - E.S.S. is open daily, Monday - Friday, from 12:00-6:00 pm. Breaks: 7:30-5:30pm
Mission Statement - "E.S.S. is a bridge between school and home where children are encouraged to learn, create, and explore within their school, community, and world."
Program Overview - This extended-day program expands the excellence of each child's school experience into before and after school. E.S.S. is staffed by highly qualified professionals and trained program assistants. The staff provides for the academic and social needs of children in safe and nurturing environments. There is time, space, encouragement, and support for learning good study habits.
Voluntary Use Program - ESS is a voluntary use program. All PUSD elementary schools have an Extended Student Services program on their campus. Our organization works diligently to accommodate and serve working families in need of before and after school care. A student's enrollment at an elementary school does not guarantee them ESS enrollment. As a growing organization, each ESS site may experience limitations that factor into the enrollment capacity and may prohibit the acceptance of additional students at any given time.
Program History - The E.S.S. program began in 1980 and is now offered in every elementary school in the Poway Unified School District. All children who attend elementary school in the District are eligible to enroll.
Program Activities - Our program is geared toward expanding each child's world through arts & crafts projects, science activities, reading and language arts reinforcement, and math concept development. Our program reinforces the social, motor, and academic skills children learn in the classroom.
